Are your wires poking? First, use your wax, then:
1.Look in your mouth to see if you can figure out whats poking you.
Usually theres a wire which has twisted, causing the poking. There may also be tooth movement (which is good) which has caused the wire to poke out of the tubes end. If the metal tie around the brace has twisted, simply use your fingernail or a pencil eraser to push it close to the brace.
2.If you cannot figure out what is poking you or if you cannot fix the problem, call for a comfort check.
3.While waiting for your appointment, place wax over the wire to temporarily relieve the discomfort.
Are you suffering from sore teeth? This is normal after any change in force.
1.First, rinse your mouth with warm water. Be sure to eat a soft diet and take Advil or aspirin until the soreness is gone.
2.If you can chew on the sore teeth, they will feel better faster.
3.If the pain and soreness persists for more than a few days, call in for a comfort appointment.
Do you have a loose bracket or a lost tie?
1.First, don't worry! They will not fall apart from this problem. If you are able to do so, carefully remove the plastic tie, slide the bracket out between the wire and the tooth and remove it. This will help you become more comfortable.
2.Be sure to call for a comfort appointment and don't forget to bring in the broken pieces!
Do you have a loose or broken hook for elastic?
1.Immediately stop wearing all removable elastics (rubber bands).
2.Call quickly for a comfort appointment.
Do you have a very loose tooth?
1.Some loosening is expected, as the teeth move. After all, the movement is temporarily enlarging the tooth sockets.
2.If one or two teeth seem excessively loose, call the doctor right away. Next, check to see if a wire is broken because this is the most common cause and immediately stop wearing any removable elastics.
