Going to the dentist for the first time can be a scary thing. As a parent, if you have seldom visited the dentist yourself, you could be unwell prepared to help your kid prepare for what can be expected during a dentist visit. To help you out, we've prepared a list of common dental procedures and a simple explanation of each.

During a dental cleaning, the dental helper will explain the procedure to your youngster before beginning. Your child may get an opportunity to choose a flavored cleaning compound, and flavors like bubble gum, grape, and banana are common decisions. The dental hygienist will apply the cleaning compound to your kid's teeth with a powered instrument that operates in a similar fashion to a battery-operated toothbrush that you might purchase for home use.

Next, the hygienist will let your child rinse with water and they will floss your kid's teeth. A fluoride wash solution could be offered, and many dentists also include a teaching session that reviews correct brushing and flossing strategies with your child.

Your child could be afraid of getting an xray, or they could be fascinated by the idea of taking an image of the inside of their teeth and be completely cooperative. Your kid's body will be layered with a lead apron to limit exposure during the procedure.

The x-ray itself is pain-free, and your youngster may not realize it once it is done. Your kid's dentist will permit your youngster to view the picture once it is finished, and will explain to you and your youngster what you are seeing.

The dental examination itself is reasonably painless. You kid may experience slight discomfort from keeping his or her mouth completely open during the exam, but unless your youngster requires fillings or tooth removal, the exam should be simple for your youngster.

Most dentists allow the kid to check out the tool before it is placed into his or her mouth.

Child-friendly dentist offices will provide explanations and demonstrations at a level your youngster can understand. Common dental treatments to expect at your youngster's first dentist visit are really mild and generally calm for you and your youngster. If you have further questions about what to expect at your youngster's first dental visit, please contact your family dentist.
